Welcome Home to Jasper Hall!

Jasper Hall is demonstrating the rewarding possibilities of life on a 42 acre, organic, permaculture paradise! Originally built as the first home in the magnificent Upper Cooper’s Creek Valley, Jasper Hall was built in 1906 by the well-known cedar getter, Tom English.

In 1997, Jasper Hall was purchased by Andi Islinger with a clear intention of creating a permaculture paradise. After much loving effort, Jasper Hall is now certified organic with approximately 80 species of fruit trees, vegies, herbs and salad greens. We also have organic free-range chickens and rabbits and are contemplating a dairy cow and bees. In addition to the farm animals, Jasper Hall has a thriving community of wildlife including our own Koalas and Echidnas!

Jasper Hall is now home to more than 111, and growing, species of Bamboo. Bamboo is a highly sustainable, multi-purpose source of timber and fibre and will soon become even more valuable with a cutting edge process being developed right here on the farm to help reverse carbon emissions and improve soil health and fertility. Bio-char, bio-gas, bio-fertilisers and compost teas will soon be common buzzwords in the permaculture industry, but for now they are a driving force in the development of Jasper Hall.

After taking over Jasper Hall in 1997, large areas of the property’s forests have been cleared of settler introduced weeds, sometimes simply with machetes, but always big hearts and sheer will power. Now, with many areas cleared, the forests are recovering and accessible for those who enjoy spending time in the magical forests the Byron Hinterland is so fortunate to have.

Forming the western boundary of the property, Upper Cooper’s Creek flows gently all day long. Even more magical, is the enchanting swimming hole, refreshed by many small waterfalls, accessible only by foot to the locals. It’s hard to imagine a more serene and unique experience to help reconnect with Nature.

But if you’re looking for a more spectacular expression of the forces of water and nature, you’ll want to visit Minyon Falls. Located only 5 minutes away by car, or a pleasant walk for those wanting some additional exercise, the falls plunge 104m into a deep palm-shaded gorge below.

While Jasper Hall is a destination in itself, it is surprisingly well located to not only Byron Bay, but also Bangalow, The Channon, Nimbin, Rosebank and other vibrant towns in the Rainbow region. If you’re visiting the area, you’ll want to experience one of the famous alternative markets, among Australia’s best, held every Sunday.

If that doesn’t satisfy your appetite, we can help you tap into one of the biggest tourist regions of Australia.

If you’re like 1’000s of others and interested in coming to Jasper Hall too, there are various ways to do so. You can come as a Personal Guest, Paid Guest, Intern, Resident or Investor, or if you can think of another way, let us know! We’d be happy to help.
